Tennis court refers to an area where individuals play the interesting and enjoyable game tennis. It has a rectangular shape surface. One of its main features is the net that can be found at the center of the playing area. In the court, tennis players have the choice to play in both doubles and singles. The floor can be made from various materials such as grass, clay or concrete. To know more about this exciting game, it is beneficial to know the varying tennis court dimensions.
Understanding The Tennis Court Sizes
78 Feet is the court’s official length for both double and singles competitions. When it comes to width, doubles competitions uses wider playing area, which is 36 feet, and singles uses only 27 feet. The officials of the game allow players to go to the surrounding areas of the playing area to hit balls that are considered as overrun. The total width of the court is 60 feet and the total length is 120 feet with this extra room.
To divide the court into two equal portions, there’s the net in the center of the court. The net also serves as a marker that separates each players’ area. The two baselines should be parallel with the net since the playing areas are symmetrical. Regarding the net’s height, before each official game starts, officials must ensure that the height reaches 3 feet and 6 inches. Aside from this, officials also check if the height of the net’s center is 3 feet.
players must be aware that the lines’ width are different for single and double games, which are 27 feet for singles and 36 feet for doubles. Additionally, the length of the outside lines should be 39 feet. Finally, the fault line and the net should be 21 feet apart.
