In the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Addidas have launched a new initiative to inspire the participation of the UKs youths in sport. AdiStars is a community based game which aims to increase sporting activity by rewarding sustained activity. The brand will launch AdiStars in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust (YST).
England and Liverpool FC Captain Steven Gerrard, and Paralympic bronze medallist John McFall made an appearance at a Liverpool city school to promote AdiStars. Pupils at St Margaret’s Church of England High School were evidently delighted by the visit as they posed for photos wearing custom Adidas sports kits. A lucky group of boys got involved in a game of basketball with Gerrard, who told them that becoming a sports star is achievable through hard work, sacrifices and dedication.
By tapping into the popular gaming culture, the digitally based sports challenge aims encourages young people aged from 13 to 19 to connect with each other online through sporting missions. Missions on AdiStars relate to 5 powers that must be mastered – speed, strength, skill, stamina and suppleness – with activities ranging from basketball, football and tennis, to running, hockey and weight-lifting.
Youngsters can register to take part in AdiStars at www.london2012.com/adiStars and receive further tips and advice on sporting activities online. They will then select the power they wish to master, and compete with others to win a number of fantastic prizes. The chance of a lifetime to be taught by the stars themselves, be it Christine Ohurougu, gold Olympic champion in sprinting, or a football lesson with Stevie G himself for your whole class are both on offer. Adidas has also secured the support of David Beckham, who will greet one lucky winner at his football ground in Los Angeles.
The scheme is expected to continue after the Olympic Games has finished, as 7,000 AdiStars are to be selected to keep awareness at a high in schools and the wider community in the future.
