The title of Wimbledon (tennis) winners is an honorable thing to hold. This competition is world renowned. There are many different events that you can compete in to become a winner of the event. These different events receive a big award and are upheld as the elite in tennis players.
Hosted by the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the Wimbledon tournament has a long history and many tennis players consider competing here to be an achievement in itself. Wimbledon is part of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments and is the oldest of the four tournaments which comprise this series. In accordance with tradition, the events at Wimbledon are held on grass courts for a little over two weeks each summer from late June until early July.
The matches at Wimbledon are played in both best of three and best of five set formats. In the event of a tie, a tie breaking game is held. The players who win the most of their sets are the winners of the tournament.
The longest event at Wimbledon is the Gentleman?s Final, which goes on for close to five grueling hours. Winning this event is considered to be one of the most prestigious wins in any player?s career. Other gentleman’s events include singles (a 128 draw) and doubles (64). Winners of the singles match are awarded a gilded silver cup and a purse of more than $1 million USD. Gentleman’s doubles winners are awarded a silver cup and more than $300,000 USD in prize money.
Women’s events at Wimbledon include Ladies, Singles and Doubles. Like the Gentlemen?s events, these are a 128 and a 64 draw respectively. The prizes for winners in the Ladies matches are the same as those awarded to the winners of the Gentlemen’s events.
There are many events that take place at the Wimbledon tournament in London. Being the most prestigious tournament played each year many people have the opportunity to play. There are junior events that allow kids and younger ages to play which include boys and girls, singles, boys and girls doubles. There are also events by invitation events which are 8 pairs of round robin for gentlemen, ladies, and seniors. There is also a 4 pairs wheelchair event that takes place. To be Wimbledon (tennis) winners in any of these events is a big honor.
The winners of the events at Wimbledon are among the world’s best tennis players; and the tournament always features some of the biggest names in the sport. The trophies (as well as the prize money) are coveted by every professional player ? but even going home from Wimbledon with a consolation prize is still an honor.
