Why Women’s Tennis Must be Appreciated

Really, what’s the contract here?

When Steffi Graf dominated the sport tennis lovers did not like it. When both of the Williams girls were devastating anybody on the way to the finals, the media didn’t like it. And currently when tournaments are wide open to a bigger field? People do not enjoy this.

The majority admit that the Williams girls dominate the majority of the time. But body defects and diminished non-Slam tournament schedules signify they now play against one another prior to the title match. Although yet again we must recall that just a year or two ago the previously referenced complaints with respect to this recurrent arrangement in the championship and their dominance over the rest of the players.

Thus currently we have Dinara Safina boasting the #1 place in the WTA race and the US Open seeds. And what exactly do fans indicate? She doesn’t deserve it since she has not won a Grand Slam (not to mention that she’s blown it in a few grand slam finals recently.) Although she’s making slam championship and she’s reasonably amusing along the way, on the court and off.

Yesterday Safina had to duke it out for a second time, virtually becoming the first top seed to be beaten in the first round. Was this engaging? I thought so. Although we will learn all regarding the inaccuracy of the rank method, yada, yada.

And then there was Venus Williams last night–furthermore pushed to three sets. Furthermore engaging. (Also note that Venus did not have the best of summers post Wimbledon.) But in all likelihood to be heard is the prevalence of injuries among the sisters Williams and their “distractions” off the courts.

Furthermore now Kim Clijsters is back and instead of being extremely psyched – which someone should be since she is affable and pleasant and a good player – the media are all saying “okay what does this imply about the women’s game that she might come beyond retirement and end up with a 6-2 win-loss count for the summer year?”

Well I suppose it proclaims that she – like she always has -maintains her physical state fantastically well. Also that she is an experienced pro athlete and she has just about zero to lose.

So let’s simply end all the criticism, please. Agreed, there are issues in the women’s game. (Some would include the absence of range in terms of playing technique.) However I personally like that it’s any person’s conjecture as to who’ll play in that final in under two weeks. And I am excited about seeing how they get there.
