Why Women’s Tennis Must be Cherished

Really, why are things this way?
When Steffi Graf dominated the tennis world tennis lovers did not like it. When the Williams sisters happened to be destroying anybody on her way to the championship, people did not want it. And now when championships are wide open to a bigger field? People do not enjoy it.
Most acknowledge that the Williams sisters dominate most of the time. But physical issues and reduced non-Slam tournament schedules mean they now play against one another before the championship match. Although for a second time let us keep in mind that just a year or two ago the previously referenced whining concerning this recurrent encounter in the final round and their supremacy over other athletes.
Well now we have Dinara Safina holding the top spot in the rankings and the US Open seedings. And what do people indicate? She hasn’t earned it because she has never won a Grand Slam (also she’s choked in a few grand slam title recently.) Although she’s making slam championship and she is rather entertaining along the way, in the tennis world and in her personal life.
Yesterday Safina had to fight it out for a second time, very nearly becoming the 1st #1 seed to be beaten in the 1st round. Was this compelling? I thought so. However we’ll hear all regarding the illegitimacy of the ranking structure, and the rest of that junk.
And then there was Venus Williams last night–moreover pushed to three pairs. Also engaging. (Also note that Venus did not have the top of summers post Wimbledon.) But probably to be heard is the prevalence of injuries among the sisters Williams and their “distractions” off the courts.
Furthermore currently Kim Clijsters is back and as opposed to being extremely psyched – which someone must be since she’s fun and kind and a worthy competitor – tennis lovers are all saying “well what does it say regarding the women’s game that she can come out of retirement and maintain a 6-2 finish for the summer year?”
Well I suppose it reveals that she – like she consistently has -exercises exceptionally well. And that she’s a seasoned player and she has just about nothing to lose.
So let’s simply cease all the insulting, please. Yes, there are issues in the women’s game. (For example the absence of range in terms of playing style.) But I for my part enjoy that it’s anybody’s guess as to who will end up in that finals in less than 2 weeks. And I look forward to seeing how they end up there.
