Wimbledon Winners

Winning a title at Wimbledon is one of the highest honors a professional tennis play can achieve. This is an event known in every corner of the world and there are many different events which players can compete in, there are awards, fame and of course, the chance to come away with the glory of being a winner at Wimbledon.

Hosted by the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the Wimbledon tournament has a long history and many tennis players consider competing here to be an achievement in itself. Wimbledon is part of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments and is the oldest of the four tournaments which comprise this series. In accordance with tradition, the events at Wimbledon are held on grass courts for a little over two weeks each summer from late June until early July.

Wimbledon events may be played as best of five or best of three sets, with a tiebreaker being held if there is a tie. Whichever player takes the majority of their sets is declared the winner of the event.

The longest event at Wimbledon is the Gentleman?s Final, which goes on for close to five grueling hours. Winning this event is considered to be one of the most prestigious wins in any player?s career. Other gentleman’s events include singles (a 128 draw) and doubles (64). Winners of the singles match are awarded a gilded silver cup and a purse of more than $1 million USD. Gentleman’s doubles winners are awarded a silver cup and more than $300,000 USD in prize money.

Ladies Singles and Doubles events are also a part of the Wimbledon tournament. These are also a 128 and a 64 draw like the Gentlemen’s events. Ladies Singles and Doubles winners receive the same prizes as those awarded to their male counterparts.

There are many events that take place at the Wimbledon tournament in London. Being the most prestigious tournament played each year many people have the opportunity to play. There are junior events that allow kids and younger ages to play which include boys and girls, singles, boys and girls doubles. There are also events by invitation events which are 8 pairs of round robin for gentlemen, ladies, and seniors. There is also a 4 pairs wheelchair event that takes place. To be Wimbledon (tennis) winners in any of these events is a big honor.

Wimbledon (tennis) winners are held up high as some of the best tennis players in the world. The most prestigious event is the Gentlemen’s singles. To hold a trophy of the event is a very big deal and if you are a winner then you also receive prize money. There are also consolation prizes for those individuals that place in the events but do now win first place.
